Auditor General Tables Supportive Housing Audit

Ottawa – Today, Auditor General Nathalie Gougeon tabled her Supportive Housing Audit.

The Supportive Housing Audit highlighted that there is important work ongoing between the City and its partners to support clients in need of supportive housing. The increasing demand for supportive housing, however, is surpassing the current ability to provide this care. The audit emphasized the need for better coordination between the three levels of government concerning capital, operating and health funding.

“The increasing demands for supportive housing services are growing faster than the system can currently accommodate. Improved coordination of capital, operating and health funding between all three levels of government is essential to ensure that the City and its service providers can meet the needs of these clients”, said Mme. Gougeon.

The audit further noted that a lack of baseline standards for the provision of client support has led to inconsistencies across service providers.  Lastly, the audited raised the need for standards to be developed to ensure transparency, equity and consistency in the governance of supportive housing. The report included four recommendations in total, all of which were accepted by management.
